New grout looks great — but if not properly maintained, it will stain and dull quickly. Here’s how to protect it and keep your floors looking like new:
Step 1: Mild Acid Cleaning
- Use a mild acid cleaner (like sulfamic acid) to break down the haze.
- This cleaning also ensures there’s no residue left that would interfere with sealing.
- Never use harsh acids — only professional-grade, tile-safe products.
Step 2: Seal the Grout
Once the haze is gone and the grout is dry:
- Seal the grout to protect against stains, mold, and grime.
- Proper sealing allows for future professional cleanings to be more effective.
- We recommend sealing grout 1–2 weeks after installation or regrouting, once fully cured and haze-free.
Step 3: Long-Term Maintenance (Same as Existing Grout!)
Your new grout now needs the same care as professionally restored grout:
DO:
Use a pH-neutral cleaner only
Clean small sections (100–200 sq ft) at a time
Use a string mop to reach into grout grooves
Mop with clean water (no double-dipping in the same bucket)
Wet mop just once per month
Dry mop or vacuum as much as you want
DON'T:
Don’t use steamers — they break down the sealer
Don’t use flat pad mops like Swiffers — they just smear dirt
Don’t skip the acid clean — it’s key before sealing
