Why Won’t Mopping Get the Grout Clean?
Most ceramic and porcelain tile has a relatively smooth surface that is fairly easy to maintain. Traditional cement-based grout is much more porous and textured.
Over time, dirt, oils and cleaning residue can become embedded in the grout. Regular mopping removes surface dirt from the tile but may do relatively little to remove years of discoloration from the grout lines.
Dirty mop water can even contribute to the problem by settling into porous grout before the water evaporates.
